Card game Rummy

The card game Rams, also known as Rummy or Wet Hen, is a hugely popular two- to four-player game. Rams is believed to have originated in the early 20th century and was derived from the Mexican game Conquian, and soon became rapidly popular worldwide. The game is fun and easy, but once you start playing it's hard to stop!

Dealing of cards

Card dealers always rotate clockwise. The first dealer shuffles the deck thoroughly and passes it first to the player on the right. The cards are dealt one to each player. The cards are dealt clockwise.

After one round, one card is placed in the middle of the table and the cards are dealt one by one. The cards are dealt until each player has five cards and there are 4 cards on the table. These cards are referred to in the game as the 'purchase'.

If all 4 players are in the game, the dealer may look at the last card, and if that card is a nine of any kind, the dealer has the right to move the cards and deal again.

If there are fewer than 4 players, the remaining cards are set aside and are no longer used in that game.

The last card dealt, which always goes to the dealer, is shown to all players as it indicates the future trump card of that hand. It is also a rule that no player may look at his cards until the trump is announced.

Purchase from

Once the cards have been dealt, the gamble phase of the game begins. The player to the left of the dealer can buy the 4 cards placed on the table at the start of the deal phase.

The latter has the right to refuse to buy the cards and the option to buy the cards passes to the player to his left. This goes round and round until the player who wants to buy appears.

The latter also turns over all 4 of his cards, places them on the table and takes his purchase. It is important to remember that the cards must not be shown to your competitors!

In some cases, all players refuse to buy, in which case the cards are untouchable and do not participate in further play. The buyer is in charge of the rest of the game and must ask the remaining players if they are sure they want to continue playing. If the players place their hole cards on the table and say "I'm not playing", they are also out of the game.

It is important to note that not all players can opt out.

If there is a player from the previous games who is just one point short of victory, he is vetoed and cannot forfeit. In this case, his turn is skipped and the right to buy passes to his friend on the left.

And sometimes players give away their points easily! For example, if all players except the buyer refuse to play, the buyer immediately wins 5 points and a new game is then called.

Axes

The game continues with the crosses. If there was a card buyer in the game, he has the right to start his turn first. If there was no such person, the opponent to the left of the player who dealt the cards starts the turn.

To win a draw, the opponent's hole card can only be discarded with a higher card of the same suit.

The calculation of card strength is as follows

  1. If 2 cards of the same rank are dealt, the higher ranked card wins the draw.
  2. If 2 cards of the same rank are dealt, the higher card is the one dealt first.
  3. If any card and trump collide, the latter is always stronger.

If 2 trumps collide, the higher ranked card wins the draw again. For example, the first player has thrown a nine of clubs, so the second player should throw a ten of clubs. If he does not have such a card, but has a trump, he discards it because it is the strongest card in the game.

If you don't have a trump, you can throw any card you want, but the fact is that the player hasn't already won that trump. It is possible that a player cuts all of his opponent's cards and continues to play successfully, having already eliminated one opponent.

There are some special rules in this game that must not be forgotten. If a player has in his hands
has an ace of trumps and is dealt his first move, he must make that move with that card.

If a player forgets or deliberately does not place a card, keeps it in the next game, and is seen by his/her teammates, he/she will be penalized.

His most powerful card is rendered powerless and turns into a trump nine.

In the next game, when the latter ace and the other nine meet, the previously dealt ace is the higher of the two cards.

Who won and scoring

After the game, when the players have made all their picks, the scoring begins. Each player starts the Rams with 0 points. The number of points needed to win is usually agreed at the start of the game. Usually the game is played to 20 or 25 points.

1 cross equals 1 point. After a game, all the player's crosses made in that game are added to the total points. Again, there are "hooks" in the scoring. If a player does not score a single pick in a game, he shall be penalized and lose 5 points if his total is positive at that time.

For example, if a player already has 3 points but does not score any clubs, 5 points are deducted and the player has a total of -2 points, but if the player already has a negative number of points, no more points are deducted. Also, no points may be deducted if at the beginning of the game, after the cards have been dealt, it has been forgotten to ask if there are any non-players.

Similarly, if a player is one point short of 20 and makes a pick, the game is ended immediately and the winner is declared.

Also, to get even more points, don't forget the most important characters in the game - the valets!

If, after the cards have been dealt, a purchase has been made and a surrender has been announced, any player has 2 Jacks of the same suit and shows them to his opponents, he also receives 5 points.

It is also important to note that this bonus is only awarded if the player wins at least one die during the game.

If a player is lucky enough to get 4 Jacks that day, he calls out the name of the game, "Rams", and wins the game immediately.

Other variants of Rummy card game

As mentioned at the start, the game can be played with one or two 52-card decks. In this case, each player is dealt 7 cards and the rest are placed on the table.

The player starts the game, seated to the left of the divider.

The first player to act places any card on the table. The next player to win a pick places a card of the same rank or type on the opponent's card.

For example, the opponent has discarded a nine of clubs, so the next player must discard either a nine of any other type or any other card of clubs.

In this case, the game is played without crosses and without scoring points, but simply trying to get away with it - without cards.

If a player has neither the same rank nor the same type of card, he draws cards from the pile until he finds one that suits him.

The first player to discard all his cards wins the game.

Interestingly, this variant is reminiscent of the popular, much-loved game "Uno"!
