In this guide, you will learn the main types of roulette, rules, strategies, and tips that will increase your chances of winning and having a great time at the roulette tables.

Roulette Rules

Roulette Game – Inside Bets

Here, you are allowed not only to bet on a single number but also to make any combination of bets on individual numbers and groups of numbers (up to six numbers).

Single Number (Eng. Straight). The betting board is divided into colorful, numbered squares. You can bet on squares numbered 1-36. The payout for betting on a number is 1 to 35, i.e., if we bet 1 euro on square 21 and win – we are paid 35 euros.

Two Numbers (Eng. Split). The possibility to bet on several numbers and win a larger payout is achieved by this betting method. You can place a chip on two adjacent numbers vertically and horizontally. The payout in this case is 1 to 17.

Street (Eng. Street). Two numbers still too few? No problem – you can make a so-called street bet and include three numbers, with a payout of 1 to 11. The chip should be placed at the bottom of the three squares (column) and should not intersect with another bottom square.

Double Street or 6 Numbers (Eng. Six Line). If you place the chip so that it crosses the bottom squares of two columns – you will win a smaller amount – 1 to 5.

Corner (Eng. Corner). You can cover 4 squares by placing the chip at the intersection of 4 squares. The payout for this bet is 1 to 8.

Trio (Eng. Trio). This is a bet that includes zero, located on the left side of the betting board. The chip is placed to cover zero and two other numbers.

Basket (Eng. Basket). In this case, the bet is placed on the corner unit, zero, and the first row of numbers.

Online Roulette: Where to Play?

Roulette Game Rules – Outside Bets

This section consists of bets on various pairs – rows and columns, even and odd, black and red squares, etc.

Columns (Eng. Columns).  If you don't want to play with just one ticket in hand, but aim to try your luck with more tickets and buy them with one bet. In this case, you can place a bet on one of the three rows of numbers. The payout for choosing this betting method is 1 to 2.

Dozens (Eng. Dozens). One dozen, like the rows, has 13 numbers, so the payout is the same – 1 to 2. The only difference is that this bet includes different numbers.

1-18 and 19-36 Bets. In this case, you bet on one or the other square marked with these numbers, hoping that the ball will land on the roulette square marked with the desired numbers. The payout is small – 1 to 1, in other words, what you bet – you get back.

Even (Eng. Even) and Odd (Eng. Odd). In this case, you bet on even if you expect the winning number to be even, and you bet on odd if you think the ball will land on an odd number. The payout is the same – 1 to 1.

Red (Eng. Red) or Black (Eng. Black). As you have noticed, all numbers are marked with different colors – some black, others red. In this case, again, you bet on the color you prefer that day – maybe you'll get lucky? The payout is again the same – 1 to 1.

These are the most popular, basic rules of European roulette, but as mentioned, there are many types of roulette – French, American, roulette with two balls, and more! In all roulettes, the betting procedure and payout principles will be the same. Play in reliable gaming rooms.

Online Casino Roulette: Types

Like many traditional casino games, roulette can also be played in various versions.

Well-known today are these types: European, American, and French roulette.

Their goal is the same – the player bets on the wheel's spin result, but the appearance of the wheel differs.

▶ European Roulette

European roulette is of traditional roulette design, where you see sections with numbers from 1 to 36 and one more spot “0”. These numbers are arranged in colors that alternate between black and red, and the single zero slot is green.

▶ American Roulette

American roulette is similar in style to European roulette but has one main difference: it has an additional “00” slot. Due to this additional betting point, the house edge exceeds 5%.

▶ French Roulette

French roulette is similar to the European version, as it uses a wheel with only one zero. However, on the table, you will see French words indicating bets. For example, racetrack bets are called Orphelins and Tiers du Zero.

FRENCH-roulette

Online casinos also offer other roulette variants

▶ Mini Casino Roulette

The mini roulette game was born from online roulette games. As you might have guessed from the name, this type of roulette is somewhat smaller than usual – the drum has only thirteen numbers from zero to 12.

The zero is a different color as usual, and all other numbers are evenly divided – 6 red and 6 black numbers.

You can bet on even and odd numbers, black or red colors, one, two, three, four, and almost half of the roulette – 6 numbers.

The payout for betting on a single number is lower (1 to 11) than in traditional roulettes (1 to 35). Additionally, when playing this roulette, the casino has a 3.85% advantage over the player, which is one percent higher than traditional European and French roulettes, making this roulette more suitable for fun rather than trying to significantly increase your wallet.

▶ Multi-Wheel Roulette

Many online roulettes offer a slightly different and for some players more interesting variant of roulette – playing with multiple wheels. The number of wheels varies from 2 to 6, and there are countless variants of multi-wheel roulettes.

In this game variant, the same rules apply as in classic roulette, but the number of wheels speeds up the game pace. Moreover, most casinos offer to try this roulette completely free of charge. So, how to play with multiple wheels at the same time?

For example, when playing roulette with six wheels, you bet on the red color. If the ball lands on your chosen color (there is only one ball in the game) – you win not one, but six payouts.

It might seem that you have a higher chance of winning, but still, this roulette is more beneficial to the casino than to you, as the game pace becomes faster, thus the amount of money won/lost grows and diminishes much quicker.

▶ Multi-Ball Roulette

Another variant of roulette is playing with two or more balls. In this roulette, the usual game rules generally apply, but the payout sizes in multi-ball roulette are smaller.

Of course, just like in multi-wheel roulette, the game also proceeds much faster in this one.

The game principle is simple – in some game developers' roulettes, each newly introduced ball increases the number of roulette spins.

Other developers offer such a roulette where two or three balls are spun at once – each of them stopping on a field indicating a lucky color or number.

▶ Roulette Royale

This game resembles old-style European roulette but includes five additional betting options.

Roulette Royale's return to player (RTP) rate is 98.65%, slightly higher because some bets return part of the money if you lose the bet.

▶ Astro Roulette

Astro Roulette is a game created by 1×2 Gaming, inspired by the twelve zodiac signs. The game is based on the principles of European roulette, but the numbers are replaced with zodiac symbols.

▶ Double Action Roulette

In Double Action Roulette, there are two rings that move independently of each other. The ball lands in the gap between these two rings.

In this game, there are two ways to win. You can place a bet on the result of the outer or inner ring. Additionally, you can place a bet such as parlay or bet on both rings together.

▶ Age of the Gods Roulette

Age of the Gods Roulette is a game created by “Playtech“, themed around Greek mythology.

▶ Pinball Roulette

As the name suggests, the idea of this game comes from a pinball machine. On the right side of the screen, the betting table is displayed, and on the left side, the pinball zone.

When you press “Start”, the ball starts moving, and a spring mechanism launches it into the pinball machine. Then the ball falls into a random pocket. If your bet wins, you proceed to the gambling mode, where there is a chance to increase the winnings up to 10 times.

Casino Roulette Strategies

Martingale System

martingale system

The Martingale System is a very well-known betting method. It starts with a small bet, usually on an option with almost a 50/50 chance, such as red or black in roulette or odd and even numbers.

If you lose, you double the amount next time. This doubling continues until a winning spin occurs. When you win, you return to the initial small bet.

It is believed that one win sooner or later will compensate for all previous losses and also provide a small profit equal to the initial bet.

This strategy requires a large amount of money to handle many losses and keep up with the increasing bets.

Fibonacci System

Fibonacci Strategy

The Fibonacci System works according to the Fibonacci sequence, where each number is formed by adding the two preceding numbers (e.g., 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, etc.).

You start this betting strategy by placing the first bet – one unit. If you lose, you move to the next number in the sequence. After winning, you go back two numbers. For example, if you lose the first two bets (1 and 1 unit), the next bet is 2 units.

If you win this, then you go back to betting 1 unit again.

This strategy is less aggressive than Martingale and aims to gradually recover losses.

D'Alembert System

D'Alembert Strategy

The D'Alembert System is a more conservative strategy. You start with a small bet. When you lose, you increase the bet by one unit. When you win, you decrease the bet by one unit.

This method aims to maintain a balance between wins and losses over time by making small, manageable changes to the bet amount.

It is not as complex as other methods and does not require large bet increases.

Labouchere System

Labouchère system

The Labouchere system, also known as the cancellation system, requires writing down a sequence of numbers that add up to your target profit. For example, if you want to win 10 units, you might write down 1, 2, 3, and 4. Your bet is the sum of the first and last numbers in the sequence.

When you win, you remove these numbers from the sequence. If you lose, you add your bet to the end of the sequence. This process continues until you cross out all the numbers.

It is a flexible plan that allows you to choose your sequence based on how much you can risk and what goals you have.

Paroli System

The Paroli system, sometimes referred to as the reverse Martingale system, aims to capitalize on winning streaks. Initially, you place a small bet. When you win, you double the bet. You continue doubling it until you lose or win three times in a row.

After one loss or three consecutive wins, you return to the initial bet.

This betting strategy aims to maximize profits when you are on a winning streak and minimize losses if you start losing.

James Bond Strategy

The James Bond strategy in roulette involves placing bets over a large area of the table. You divide all your betting money into three parts: 70% on high numbers (19-36), 25% on low numbers (1-18), and the remaining 5% on zero.

By placing bets of varying sizes, you cover a wide range of outcomes. If the ball lands on high numbers, the win is moderate. If it lands on a low number, you neither lose nor win money.

If the ball lands on zero, you win more money because this bet offers a higher payout.

History of Roulette: How It All Started

The history of roulette dates back to ancient times. Although there are no exact facts about its origins, a game similar to roulette was definitely played by the ancient Chinese people. Like many things from China, traders brought the game to Europe. It is very likely that the French paid the most attention to this game in Europe. The name is also associated with the French language – Roulette (translated from French roulette means small wheel).

history-roulette

One of the origins of roulette can be traced back to the E. O. Game. E and O stand for even and odd. The appearance of this game’s wheel was very similar to the current roulette wheel. It is also often said that the author of roulette is the famous French physicist Blaise Pascal.

However, this is likely only partially true. He did indeed invent something very similar to the roulette wheel, applying formulas that were analyzed by casinos to assess probabilities. Thus, Pascal certainly left his mark on the history of casinos and roulette.

In the 17th century, the game spread to French casinos. By the end of the century, there was already a zero and a double zero. One was red, the other black, so it was essentially different from the current roulette, but the zeros were still intended to ensure the casino's advantage.

This misled players, and in the early 19th century, the green color appeared. For a while, casinos used roulette tables with both zero and double zero.

When King Louis Philippe of France closed all the country's casinos, the golden age of German casinos began, especially in the southern regions. It was there that the famous novel “The Gambler” by F. Dostoevsky was born.

In the mid-19th century, brothers Frank and Louis Blanc removed the double zero from the roulette wheel and gradually popularized their version of roulette throughout Europe. This is why the single zero roulette variant is called European roulette.

Despite its great popularity, casinos were banned in Germany in the 1960s. In Europe, there was only one well-known place where casinos were legal and popular – the famous Monte Carlo. It was the mecca of luxurious casinos and gamblers.

Roulette in America

American roulette is less popular today due to the higher house edge, but earlier, Americans likely didn't even know about single zero roulette. Among other things, how could it be without the American symbol of freedom – the eagle?

The latter was added to the casino wheel and became yet another house edge against players. Zeros and eagles meant player losses.

Interestingly, in Europe, the game of roulette was considered a luxurious, elite gambling activity, while in America, it was a mass game rife with cheating.

Both players and casinos cheated, so various measures were taken to reduce cheating – the roulette wheel was raised to show that there were no devices underneath that could manipulate the outcome, and so on.

As you can see, there are countless versions, but later the game began to gain popularity, and information about some aspects remained, making the further course of roulette much clearer.

Common Types of Bonuses:

Casino Registration Bonus

New players registering at a casino for the first time are offered a registration bonus, which can even be without a deposit.

However, you will usually need to deposit at least a minimum amount. If you plan to register at a casino, it is definitely worth looking into the current bonuses, as not taking advantage of them would be simply irrational.

casino-roulette-bonus

If you are undecided about which casino to register at, compare the new member bonuses offered, considering the size of the bonus, the wagering requirements, and even the validity period – some bonus money is valid for a very short time, making it difficult to wager.

Deposit Bonus (Reload Bonus)

Reload bonus is a special casino offer given to players who have previously deposited money into their accounts. These bonuses aim to thank regular customers for returning and are often offered on certain days of the week.

Cashback Bonuses

Cashback bonuses are also a popular type of bonus. These bonuses return a portion of the money that players lose during gaming sessions over a set period. This way, the casino aims to protect you if you are unlucky.

The refunded amount is usually set as a percentage and varies with each offer. This percentage can be based on the lost money or the amount wagered.

Cashback bonuses also come in various forms. You can find cashback bonuses that return real money without any conditions and others that return bonus money, which may have certain restrictions. Some bonuses may only be available for a short time.

On the other hand, others may not limit your time but may only be usable on certain days, such as Mondays.

Loyalty Systems

Casinos also implement loyalty systems. In some, points accumulate for every cent spent, while others use different methods, but the essence is the same – to offer something better to loyal customers. This can include the ability to exchange points for prizes, gambling money, or free spins.

There is also special attention in support services (e.g., a separate support service for VIP members), and you can expect invitations to various events both online and live.

While bonus hunting is not a true roulette strategy, it can certainly be your strategy to get more funds for playing without experiencing financial difficulties.
