Board games, as a very interesting and also beneficial way to spend leisure time, became popular in the USA around the 1950s and were considered mostly an entertainment for the elite. Later, these games gave way to computer games and consoles and only revived in the 1980s with the emergence of collectible card games, known as CCG and TCG. Some of the most popular at that time were Magic: the Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh cards. However, the influence of the internet, of course, did not bypass board games, so a large part of them moved online. So, why have board games taken such strong positions among other online board games?
Essentially, the popularity of games online is determined by a few simple things. First, the recognition of the game’s name and brand (of course, trying new games is definitely worth it, even if they are not widely known), as well as the impressions and emotions evoked during the game. Playing online provides no less joy, especially if the game features great graphics and a unique musical soundtrack.
Some people like economic games based on calculations and logical thinking, while others prefer strategic ones that require a sharp mind and a precise action plan. Some enjoy short games, while others can spend endless hours at one game board or online game table. Others like to learn and discover new things or solve puzzles that don’t require much knowledge. Board games online also provide the same opportunity to play, just online. The only problem left is how to choose a favorite from the abundance of board games?
Such online games are often presented in the form of “Quizzes,” for example, the simplest “Alias” or “I know.” One player asks a question, and others must answer correctly and as quickly as possible. In Lithuania, the “Prototo” game, created by the creators of the popular TV project “Auksinis protas,” is currently very popular.
Economic games encourage players to create and manage production, distribution, trade, and/or consumption systems. Games often simulate trading markets, making them a great way to expand your knowledge. One of the most popular economic board games of all time is, of course, “Monopoly” or “Catan.”
Strategic games require a clear game plan and strong strategy to overcome all challenges and win the game. Strategic-adventure games are mostly based on players’ decisions and ideas. The most well-known strategic game is “Ticket to Ride,” where the goal is to build the longest route between various countries around the world.
Playing historical games often involves traveling to unknown lands and aiming to conquer new territories. These games are extremely popular because they often feature impressive game graphics. The popular “A Game of Thrones” series has come to life in the form of an online board game.
Such games include chess, checkers, and various puzzles. These board games require concentration and patience, as they often last quite a long time, but they truly engage and gather large crowds of fans.
Negotiation games encourage forming alliances and deals with other players and then ambushing them, as winning otherwise is practically impossible. Negotiation games are based on competition, giving players opportunities to make joint decisions. Negotiations also involve bribery – an offer can be accepted or rejected, and one such game is “Sherriff-of-Nottingham.”
This group of table games is special because popular games are gradually moving into the casino world, where there is a bit more excitement. Like regular online table games, Casino table games online are divided into certain types and categories.
Table games are also known as classic casino games. These include Roulette, Baccarat, Blackjack, Trinka, and many similar casino games. Sometimes the game is led by a croupier dealing cards, other times all the information about the game is provided by a charming game host, and sometimes there are no hosts, and the game is played simply by logging in. Although classic casino table games are considered gambling and sports card games, they also include classic roulette. These games are usually played for money, but there is also the possibility to try your luck for free.
Casino table games online games are played in real-time, i.e., by joining the game online at a virtual game table. One such game is “Pontoon” – a “Black Jack” type game where both casino cards are dealt face down, making it harder to predict your winning chances and place a bet; “Craps” – a popular dice game that attracts a lot of attention and emotions in casinos; “Sic bo” – a popular Chinese table game that uses three dice and a table with many betting options for these dice and many others.
Another group of games belonging to the Casino table games online category is the old, traditional table games, which have been revived in a new form in the casino world. One such game is “Monopoly live casino“, which offers a variety of this game – Monopoly Slots, live games, etc. It is no secret that this is the most popular board game in the world, played by thousands of people every day. Due to the immense popularity of this game and the rapidly growing interest in “live dealer games” casino games, the idea arose to bring the Monopoly world into the online casino table games space.
Unlike regular online table games, Casino board games have a bit more than just an entertainment function – here you can also add a few euros to your wallet. Of course, there are players who play in casinos not for money, but for the thrill and sense of risk. Both are great, as long as you play responsibly. So, why choose Casino board games?
The variety of board games today is endless, and the entire entertainment industry is thriving and not planning to stop. It’s interesting to consider how things were in ancient times when there was neither television nor, let alone, the internet. Historical sources suggest that the oldest board games appeared more than five thousand years ago and became prototypes for many modern games.
The origins of board games are dated to India and China, where the first board game enthusiasts would roll stones on special boards, and the winner was the one who collected the most points. In China, one of the most popular games was “Senet,” reminiscent of modern checkers, placed in pharaohs’ tombs and dated around 3100 BC. The Aztec “Patolli”—a semi-strategic, semi-luck-based game—was also created over 2500 years ago. Another precursor to the modern board game, Domino, appeared in India around 1000 AD. From there, it is believed that chess also originated. The history of the name of the domino game is quite interesting. The white tile with black dots resembled Venetian carnival masks (known as domini), and these masks, in turn, were named for their similarity to the winter hoods of French priests—Dominicans—which are black on the outside and white on the inside. Another game’s history is quite spicy… The Indian game “Chaupar” (400 AD) was very popular among emperors. Interestingly, on the large colored board, it was not pieces but harem concubines that moved around…
Thus, these ancient, seemingly simple games that did not require much logic or strategy traveled from the Middle East to Europe, where they changed significantly, became more complex, and gradually reached our days. The popularity of board games also led to the creation of board game stores, tournaments, and exhibitions. A similar exhibition to “gameon” takes place every year in Lithuania. As you can see, today we can count games in the thousands, and some of them, with the advancement of technology, are played in virtual spaces.
