Poker is not a niche game encountered by a minority. Quite the opposite – many people who enjoy card games or are encouraged by friends and social media come across poker.
That's why it's no surprise to us, and we believe to you as well, that famous personalities – athletes, musicians, actors, etc. – sit at poker tables.
“PokerioMokykla.com” presents to you its new entertainment section, where we will tell you about celebrities who have appeared in the poker world.
Kevin Pollak (actor)
The actor and comedian is known for films such as “Casino” (by the way, we already wrote about it HERE), “A Few Good Men,” “Beverly Hills Cop,” etc. He is also known as an active poker player, competing with other Hollywood stars.
In official tournaments, he hasn't made a significant mark, only placing 134th in the 2012 WSOP main event, securing just over 50 thousand US dollars.
Rafael Nadal (athlete)
The tennis star is no longer the top-ranked player in the world, but he has certainly become a tennis legend, winning numerous top-level competitions. Currently, Rafa is 31 years old, but even earlier, at the peak of his career, he found time to participate in poker tournaments.
Unlike other celebrities, R. Nadal has no tournament wins in the poker database, but he managed to win a charity event at the EPT Prague festival. He defeated Daniel Negreanu, Brazilian football star Ronaldo, Fatima Moreira de Melo, and Andriy Shevchenko. After this win, he was able to donate 50 thousand euros to a charity of his choice.
Additionally, Rafa became an ambassador for “PokerStars TV.”
R. Nadal started playing poker with friends in Mallorca. The tennis player says that the psychological aspect is very similar in both poker and tennis.
Jason Alexander (actor)
A star from an earlier generation, especially known for the series “Seinfeld,” but also starred in “Hachi: A Dog's Tale” and many other films and series. J. Alexander achieved his biggest win in 2010 when he placed 5th in the “WSOP Circuit” event in Atlantic City, winning nearly 17 thousand dollars.
Although there are no records of his play in official tournaments since then, this actor is still occasionally seen at the poker table.
James Woods (actor)
The 67-year-old actor and producer is a regular participant in WSOP events, likely encountered by anyone who has participated in WSOP.
His first official tournament record dates back to 2004, but since then, J. Woods has regularly competed at the poker table. Over 13 years, he has participated in 61 tournaments in the US.
However, his biggest win came in February 2006, when he placed 24th in the “L.A. Poker Classic” tournament in Los Angeles, winning nearly 40 thousand dollars.
Although most celebrities mentioned in this section have played less in official tournaments recently, this does not apply to J. Woods, who has already participated in 5 tournaments in 2017 alone.
