Pot Limit Omaha poker rules

Omaha poker is very similar to Texas Hold’em poker. The same combinations, the same dealer movement, mandatory bets, 5 community cards, flop, turn, and river.

The main difference between Omaha and Texas Hold’em is that in Omaha we receive four cards in hand, while in Texas Hold’em we get two. And we must play with two of our 4 cards. Let’s say we have an ace of spades and three red cards in our hand, so if four spades come out on the table, we won’t have a spade flush, even though we have an ace of spades. If we want to have a flush, we need to have at least two cards of the same suit in our hand.

Omaha is almost always played pot limit, i.e., unlike in no-limit games, we cannot push all our money whenever we want.

How to calculate bets in pot-limit games? More about this is explained at the end of the video.

It is very important for beginners not to be deceived, although the Omaha poker game looks very similar to Texas Hold’em, the game mathematics is very different because in Omaha we have twice as many cards, so weak combinations lose their value and high combinations gain more value. Therefore, Omaha is mostly a game of high combinations, straights, flushes, and full houses.
