Last Fisherman’s Challenge winner A. Voišnis: about high-stakes heads-up battles and the best shape of his life

You are the winner of the last Fisherman's Challenge. Are you planning to participate from March 1-10 and defend your title?

Aleksandras ‘Kobasteris' Voišnis: Yes. Definitely. It looks like a great series.

What do you think about the changes in this series: a €100,000 main event, starting days in Riga, Tallinn, and Betsafe poker room online? What do you think about raising the high roller to even €750?

Aleksandras ‘Kobasteris' Voišnis: I view it positively, the more money, the better 🙂

Tell us what you remember – i.e., the key moments from your victory in the last Fisherman's Challenge. For example, I remember we were sitting at the same table on the first day, and you stacked me very powerfully when I tried to bluff you and another opponent by donk-leading a low paired flop from the SB, while you had a higher pocket pair and turned a full house.

Aleksandras ‘Kobasteris' Voišnis: Well, I don't remember much. I only remember winning a huge pot against Povilas Jakutis with a full house against a flush when there were 4 or 5 players left, which I would call the turning point because after that I became a big chip leader, and it was much easier to play.

How was the heads-up battle for you? You played against Algirdas Saveikis and didn't even consider the possibility of a flip. What led to your decision?

Aleksandras ‘Kobasteris' Voišnis: Actually, we split the money and played only for the trophy, Algis didn't try too hard 🙂

Right after the Fisherman's Challenge victory, the next month, you had an even bigger hit in a live tournament in Morocco: you won €58,000 by winning the WPTDeepStacks high roller. This is your biggest win, allowing you to climb significantly in the list of the highest-earning Lithuanian poker players. What did this victory mean for you and your poker career? How did you celebrate the win? What are your impressions of that series overall?

Aleksandras ‘Kobasteris' Voišnis: This victory gave me a lot of self-confidence in my poker career, which I had somewhat lost. I celebrated quite modestly because there were still many tournaments left in the series. The impressions are great: super weather, good field, and won money. What more do you need…

In online poker, you are widely known worldwide, especially among heads-up and spin and go professionals. Many years ago, when I received some high stakes hand histories, I saw you fearlessly battling against the best 1-5k turbo regs, as well as playing husng hyper turbo high stakes. Tell us about the reasons behind these reg wars? Did you have goals to establish yourself in those limits?

Aleksandras ‘Kobasteris' Voišnis: There was no goal to necessarily establish myself in those limits; it was probably more personal ambition to play with the best, which was costly :)))

Your online poker graph is impressive. However, it seems that due to husng, or more precisely, playing against the best husngers in the world, you swung down significantly. Would you repeat these attempts now?

HUSNG Graph:

Aleksandras ‘Kobasteris' Voišnis: I wouldn't repeat it; now all my focus is on mtt games.

Do you still have ambitious goals with heads-ups online these days? Do you think this variation, with the advent of spin and go, can still be highly profitable?

Aleksandras ‘Kobasteris' Voišnis: There are definitely no goals with hu anymore, but I learned a lot from hu, which is very useful in mtt games. Actually, there is very little action in hu now. With the advent of spins, there are no big prospects in them.

By the way, in the past six months, your online results have been impressive – you have over €90k in profit. Is this the best poker form you've ever had? How do you improve off-tables?

Aleksandras ‘Kobasteris' Voišnis: Probably yes – the best form, but I hope even better is yet to come. I improve just by playing – being in the same situation n times, you play it better and better. I have never watched my hh in my life.

Returning to the Fisherman and other upcoming live series in Lithuania – what suggestions would you have for the organizers to make the upcoming series even more interesting?

Aleksandras ‘Kobasteris' Voišnis: I will leave the organizational questions to the organizers, who I think are doing a great job.
