"Donkey" usually played between 2 and 9 players.

Instruments needed for the game

Played with a full deck of cards. Depending on how many players are playing, the same number of cards of a particular type must be selected. For example, if playing with two people, aces and kings; if playing with three people, aces, kings and jacks; if playing with four people, aces, kings, jacks and queens; etc.

The aim of the game

Collect 4 cards of the same type (all kings, queens, jacks or other) without being the first to become the 'Donkey'.

Game progress

There are six games in total (the word "Donkey" is made up of exactly 6 letters). The players sit comfortably in a circle, the cards are carefully shuffled and dealt to each player. Players must secretly decide what kind of cards they want to collect. The choice should be based on the type of cards you get the most of. If it happens that all the cards you receive are different, you have to try your luck and guess what kind of cards you will collect, hoping that the contestant does not collect the same cards.

The first player chooses the card he needs the least and passes it to the player on his left, face down. The teammate takes the card, checks if it suits him, keeps it and throws the face-down card from his pile to the next player. If the card does not fit, he/she may pass the same face-down card to another player. The round is played in this way until one player has collected all 4 cards. When the cards are even, the winner places his/her palm or fist, with thumb raised, in the centre of the circle, and the other players who have noticed this must also repeat the action. The last player to place a fist or palm on the table remains the 'Donkey'.

Usually the loser of a game gets only one, the first letter "A" of the word. The first person to get the word "Donkey" loses the game. The main word of the game can be substituted with another word, especially if there are children playing - "Piglet" is usually chosen.

How to win? 

The key trick to winning is to react very quickly. Although the game is easy and fun, injuries can sometimes occur if players have extremely long fingernails. 

Who won?

The winner is the player who doesn't become an "Ass" and has the fewest letters of the word. Traditionally, the losing player crawls under the table and has to repeat the donkey sound "Y-a, Y-a, Ya" three times.
