Today (21-01-2019), Winamax.fr sent a letter to all players in Lithuania regarding the closure of its operations in the country. Registration at this poker room will be prohibited and all accounts registered in Lithuania will be blocked on 31 January. The location of accounts is determined by address, bank details and IP addresses, so using a VPN to bypass this blocking will not be effective.
In an official letter, Winamax.fr announces that it is taking this decision due to the lack of a licence to provide gambling services in Lithuania. No further information is provided, but Winamax.fr has never held such a licence and the gambling laws in both the European Union and Lithuania have remained unchanged for many years. The real reason for the withdrawal remains unclear.
