SANDBOX Gaming - Griffin, 2020-04-29 series review

The LCK qualifiers for the summer season are coming to an end, and the final series will feature two teams that are well known to every League of Legends fan. It's a shame we won't be seeing one of them in the LCK this summer season. Which team has a better chance of staying in the league and who should be the favourite in this match? We will analyse both teams and give our predictions for this match.
SANDBOX Gaming

SANDBOX Gaming

SANDBOX Gaming was one of the two teams that made their debut in South Korea's strongest LoL league last year. And indeed, this team's debut in the LCK was a good one, making it to the playoffs and narrowly missing out on representing the LCK at the World Cup. However, this season did not go well at all, and the team will now be fighting not for the playoffs, as was usual, but for survival in the league.

The main reasons for this poor season are undoubtedly the changes in the starting line-up. Dove (Mid-lane), Ghost (Adc) and Joker (Support) are gone. Both Ghost and Joker were the team's main "Shot-callers", i.e. the players who make decisions during matches. They have been replaced by FATE (Mid-lane), Route (Adc) and GorillA (Support), who was the backup last season. However, we have soon seen that none of this trio is up to the level of the players who represented the team last season, which has led to the poor results.

In this season, it is very difficult to understand what kind of game SANDBOX wants to showcase. In one series they try to play with a strong line-up early in the game, but once the advantage is gained it is often squandered, and at the mid-late stage of the game there is very little chance of winning with this line-up. Individually, this team is average in the league, but a better selection of champions with more chances in the game would really help this team to make a serious challenge for survival.

Griffin Tarzan

Griffin

Griffin's history is very similar to that of SANDBOX. This team made an impressive debut in the LCK league and has continuously impressed every LoL fan. Their aggressive style of play, interesting champion choices and impressive team coordination have produced great results. Not only was Griffin consistently among the top teams in the LCK, but he also participated in the World Cup on a couple of occasions, and even though he didn't win anything serious there, it's still something that can't be underestimated.

What happened that one of the best teams in the LCK became the worst team in the league in just a few months? It wasn't due to a change of players, lack of talent or anything else, but to internal problems within the organisation. At the end of last season, the internal scandals of this team started to come to light one by one, including the problems of the team's coach, CvMax, who led the team to the top of the tournament.

Despite the line-up changes and the addition of Ucal (Mid-lane) and Wadid (Support) instead of Chovy (Mid-lane), Lehends (Support), Griffin's team still looks strong on paper. It is easy to imagine that the team's poor results are a consequence of internal team problems and only when these are solved and the players can focus on their own issues and not on those of the outside world can Griffin expect to succeed again.

H2H

The two teams have shared a win in two games this season.

Forecast

Both teams did not perform as expected this season, so one of them will have to return to the second-tier championship next season. Griffin has the edge in terms of line-ups and recent play. With the addition of Wadid, Griffin had all the chances to win the series against Seorabeol Gaming, but fell a little short. Meanwhile, Sandbox had absolutely no chance against Team Dynamics, and their lineup looks much weaker compared to Griffin.
