Rogue vs Fnatic, LEC 2020-08-17 playoff series review

The LEC Summer Season Playoffs start next week and in perhaps the most exciting first round series of the season, regular season winners Rogue will face off against a team that hasn't yet shown its full potential in Fnatic. The winner of the series will go straight through to the semi-finals, while the loser will drop into the loser's bracket. We'll take a look at both teams and conclude with our predictions for this series.
Finn Rogue

Rogue

The Rogue team was one of the most pleasant surprises of the summer season, finishing the regular season in the last week in first position. Although the line-up remained the same compared to the spring season, the obvious progression of the players and the interplay between them is what led to such a good result. Hans Sama and Vander botlane 2v2 are the driving force behind the team, while Larssen is proving his worth as one of the best midlane players in Europe. Top laner Finn is a stable pillar of the team, although he is not considered one of the best players in his position. Inspired (jungle) is excellent at picking the right moments for the ganks and gives an advantage to his line players in almost every match.

Rogue is a team with a versatile game that is quite difficult to predict in a long series. They are perfectly capable of playing with both strong avatars in the early stages of the game and later stage-oriented options. Overall, this is a strong and aggressive team that takes advantage of the advantages they are given, and once they have gained an advantage in the early stages of the game, they rarely give their opponents a chance to come back into the match this season.

The key for Rogue to stay ahead of Fnatic and prove that they won the regular season for a reason is to keep up their style of play and not lose their heads against the more experienced and better known opponents in Europe. It is usually inexperience and poor mental state that leads to defeats of potentially stronger but less confident teams in the most important stages, so we have to hope that Rogue will prepare for the series in the right way and show what they are worth.

Rekkles Fnatic

Fnatic

One of Europe's most titled League of Legends teams, still trying to reinvent their game this season. Fnatic had a very difficult start to the season and while many expected this team to dominate, they didn't really see it. At times, an overly aggressive and overconfident style of play led to large deficits in the early stages of the game, after which the team simply could not recover. Anyway, as the season progressed, Fnatic's play improved and Nemesis, who is considered to be a potential leader of the team in Midlane, started to show his potential.

It's hard to know what to expect from Fnatic in the playoffs, where even a loss would still give them one more chance to qualify for the next rounds. There is no doubt that this team can dominate Europe with the line-up it has, but the big question mark is whether that will happen this season. A lot will depend on which champions the team is able to assemble in the selection phase. In more than one match, it was a poor selection phase that led to Fnatic simply letting their opponents go ahead in the early stages and not being able to get back into the match.

Forecast

This should be a tough series and a 3-2 result one way or the other would not be surprising. Rogue has been much more confident in the regular season and should dominate this series, but given how experienced and individually strong Fnatic's players are, it would be hard to expect Rogue to dominate the playoffs. Anyway, Rogue are the favourites to win the series these days, and with the even odds being given, a bet on Rogue to win has more value than Fnatic.
