LGD vs Rainbow 7 - 2020/09/29 Worlds Play-in Series Review

The playoffs for the main League of Legends Worlds tournament of the year are now open. The first series sees the pre-qualification favourites LGD from China and Rainbow 7 from the CB LOL region meet. We'll take a look at both teams and make a prediction from this series.
LGD

LGD

One of the best Chinese teams, Invictus Gaming, were considered the absolute favourites to qualify after beating them 3-1 in the LPL playoffs, and in a relatively weaker group they should easily secure a spot in the main tournament after the group stage. However, e-sports, just like other sports, can sometimes be hard to predict, and this tournament is no exception. LGD finished just 4th in the group stage and now has to fight in the knock-out stage to qualify for the main tournament.

It's hard to say why the team had such a poor start, but the game they showed in this round was like night and day from the LPL playoffs. Peanut, the Jungle role player, who is supposed to be the main initiator and the team's talisman of success, is not finding his game and the team itself seems to be unbalanced despite the fact that the tournament is being held in China. The only positive moment in the team's game was the convincing victory over Japan's V3 team. In that match, LGD reminded themselves and won convincingly.

There is no question about the potential of this team, but in order to win against Rainbow7 you will have to play as aggressively from start to finish and give the team leaders Peanut and Kramer a chance to prove themselves. LGD's biggest strength, like most Chinese teams, is its excellent coordination in teamfights. With good team compositions and playing to their strengths, LGD should be able to confidently take on a much weaker region.

Rainbow7

Rainbow7

CB LOL surprised with wins against Unicorns of Love and LGD in the group stage, but to some extent those wins were predictable given the characters chosen. Both LGD and Unicorns of Love players commented after the games that they had put themselves in an awkward position with their chosen compositions, and Rainbow7 just had to sort out the formalities.

The Brazilians don't have the same talent and individual ability as the other teams in the tournament, but they make good use of the advantages they create and punish their opponents for mistakes. Rainbow7 often uses pick-up line-ups, which are strong in the early-mid stages of the game, and have already shown that they can close out matches once they have gained an advantage. However, it would be naive to expect anyone to underestimate the Brazilians in the play-off series, as their opponents did in the group stage.

Rainbow 7 came into this tournament as absolute underdogs, but they proved that the Brazilian region is capable of competing with the strongest teams in the world, so their performance can be considered positive. Nevertheless, their path in this tournament will most likely end in the series against LGD.

Forecast

There is no question about the difference in potential between the teams, and the Chinese representatives, who have tasted the cold shower, should pull themselves together and demonstrate their potential in the decisive round. All the LGD players are much more experienced than the Rainbow 7 squad, so they shouldn't feel much pressure. The most important match in this series will be the first game, which if won by LGD would probably result in a dry result, as it would be naive to expect much improvisation from Rainbow 7.

LGD will win the series 3-0, 2,2 kof., betsafe
