Indiana Pacers - Philadelphia 76ers, 2021-02-02 NBA game preview

As the NBA season gets into full swing, the Indiana Pacers host the Philadelphia 76ers in the 21st round of the NBA Playoffs, featuring D. Sabonis at home. The Pacers will be coming into this game on the back of an away loss against the Hornets, while the 76ers are coming off an away win against the Minnesota Timberwolves. We'll take a look at both teams and, as always, give you our predictions for the game.
Sabonis

Indiana Pacers

The Indiana Pacers (11-8) had won 2 games in a row before the game against the Charlotte Hornets, so it seemed like it shouldn't be a big challenge to win in Charlotte. However, the Hornets had other plans and the team played well as a team and won at home. The Indiana Pacers were not spared by a good performance from Sabonis, who has become the team's leader this season, scoring 22 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists in 37 minutes. Indiana lacked good three-point shooting, as only 11 of 35 made three-pointers were made. Brogdon, one of the Indiana Pacers' top three-point shooters this season, also struggled, hitting just 3 of 10 attempts.

Anyway, the loss in Charlotte shouldn't be exaggerated too much, because just the day before the Pacers had won by 10 points, and of course it's harder to win when you're playing the same opponent twice. Indiana has improved its scoring this season and is currently 11th in the league with an average of 113.3 points per game. The team's main problem is poor rebounding, with Indiana averaging just 42.6 rebounds per game, 29th in the league.

As for the team's strengths, the team continues to promote team play, with Malcolm Brogdon (22.7 points, 7.2 assists) and Domantas Sabonis (20.5 points, 12.2 rebounds, 5.8 assists) as the nominal leaders of the team. T.J. Warren, who also joined the team well last season, is also scoring 15.5 points this season, but the biggest improvement has been made by D. McDermott, who is not only averaging 13 points per game, but also has a very high synergy with the rest of the team, which is evident in the Pacers games.

T.J. Warren and C. LeVert will not play in this game, while D. McDermott's game is still uncertain.

Embiid

Philadelphia 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers (14-8) are currently in first place in the Eastern Conference standings, 2 losses behind their closest rival, the Brooklyn Nets. The 76ers will enter this game on the back of two consecutive victories, a 107-106 home win over the Los Angeles Lakers and a 118-94 road win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. In the game against the Timberwolves, Embiid was absolutely dominant, scoring 37 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Overall, Embiid's form in recent weeks looks impressive, averaging almost 30 points and more than 11 rebounds. It will be very interesting to see how the tandem of Domantas Sabonis and Miles Turner will handle this big man.

This season, Philadelphia's offensive rating is 9th in the league, averaging 113.6 points per game. Unlike the Pacers, the 76ers have a great rebounding game, averaging 46.1 rebounds per game and currently rank 9th in the league. While Embiid (28.3 points, 11.1 rebounds) has been dominant this season, the addition of Danny Green and Seth Curry (14.3 points) in the off-season has significantly reduced Ben Simmons' contribution to the team's game (12.9 points, 8.3 rebounds and 7.9 assists). There was a lot of talk about Simmons' possible involvement in the Harden trade, which also had a negative impact on his performance on the court, but now that everything has been resolved, we can expect Simmons to get back to his normal rhythm and not only score more points, but also be more aggressive on offense, as his passivity is now in full view,

Forecast

As in previous seasons, Philadelphia plays much better at home than away. This season, the 76ers have won only 4 of the 9 games played on the road, and that was against teams with a negative win/loss ratio. The Indiana Pacers are not dominating at home this season as they did in previous seasons, but they are looking confident and have a positive win/loss ratio. A loss to Charlotte should only motivate the team further to win against their direct opponents in the fight for a better position in the Eastern Conference standings.
