Fnatic
Fnatic is one of the most well-known and well-deserved organisations among e-sports fans. Long a dominant force in the European League of Legends championships, the team has now relinquished its position to G2, but still remains one of the two strongest teams in the region. Fnatic players, who were up against G2 last season but came within a whisker of winning the title, have been talking in the off-season about fixing the weaknesses that prevented them from winning the tournament and focusing on playing better.
Fnatic's team hasn't changed since the spring season, and the youngsters (Nemesis, Selfmade) who shone in the last season are even more improved and ready to win the LEC trophy after a long time. In the first few games you could see Selfmade showing a lot more confidence, as some of the decisions they made were risky ones that we probably wouldn't have seen in the spring phase. However, it is great to see high level young players progressing not only in individual skill but also in good decision making and situational awareness.
Fnatic played 3 games in the first week and won them. Misfits, Vitality and exceL were the teams to beat. The most difficult of these matches was the first one against Misfits. 9 out of 10 times that match should have been lost, but Misfits played poorly in the dying minutes and Fnatic, led by the veterans, managed to come back and win the match. However, Fnatic suffered their first unexpected defeat earlier this week in a match against MAD Lions, where a rather poor choice of champions resulted in a loss.
Origen
Origen is an organisation founded by former Fnatic player xPeke in 2014, which is getting better and better results not only in League of Legends, but also in other e-sports games. Origen has quickly become one of the dominant teams in the LEC, but it has not been able to make a decisive step towards the top of the LEC. No matter how good Origen looks during the season, for several years in a row they have been bounced by G2 or Fnatic teams, which they have not been able to beat.
There are no changes in the team compared to the spring phase. It's hard to say if those changes are necessary, because individually this team looks really impressive and could be on par with both Fnatic and G2 in terms of talent. However, it is understandable that this relatively new organisation lacks a winning mentality. None of the players in the squad, although very good individually, have won the LEC, even though they were among the contenders for the title. Once the title is won, it is very likely that the team will start to play more confidently and take a step towards the elite.
Origen has 2 wins in 4 games played in this summer phase. Being one of the slowest teams in the league, Origen obviously has problems against early game dominant teams. This is the reason why losses were suffered by SK Gaming and Misfits, which are by no means among the tournament favourites, but they are an unfavourable opponent for Origen.
Forecast
This week's match between Fnatic and Origen should be a hard-fought and very exciting one for every e-sports fan. Both teams have started the season less confidently than expected given the strength of the opponents they have played against, but this is just the beginning of the summer phase. The Fnatic team is playing unpredictably. This team can play impressively in both the early and later stages of the game, which is not at all favourable for the Origen team, which is strongest in the mid-late phase of the game. It is for these reasons that Fnatic should extend their winning streak against Origen and avoid an 0-2 week.
