Evil Geniuses vs FlyQuest eSports, 2020-04-18 series review

The spring phase of the League of Legends season is inexorably drawing to a close. On Saturday, the second semi-final will be played, with the winner of the semi-final facing the regular season winners, Cloud 9, in the final. In this preview, we'll look at both teams, their pros and cons, and of course share our predictions for the match.
Jiizuke Evil Geniuses

Evil Geniuses

The pre-season was very ambiguous - some analysts said that this team will definitely be among the candidates to win the season, while others said that it is unlikely to happen, as Evil Geniuses will need more time to get used to the game compared to other teams. However, the former has happened and Evil Geniuses are among the three teams left in the battle for the NA LCS title.

The North American League of Legends Major Championship is the only year that the team has joined a competitive line-up. Jiizuke (Mid), who has shone in Europe, has already had some impressive moments in EG. Last season's Cloud 9 main support player Zeyzal has also joined EG, where he seems to have found his place. However, the most important detail in this team is one of the best American junglers, Svenskeren. With years of experience at the highest level, he is a great decision maker at crucial moments of the match and individually outplayed most of the competition.

Evil Geniuses started the season in a difficult way and there were questions whether the team would be able to catch the playoff train. However, as expected, as the season progressed, the newly-formed team played amongst themselves and started to show much better form. EG finished the season winning 6 out of 8 games played, and even finished the season in 2nd place after the extra games to share the standings. Evil Geniuses, who once lost a series to Cloud 9 by 3-1, should have learnt from that series and prepared some changes that could help in this semi-final match.

WildTurtle FlyQuest

FlyQuest

FlyQuest proved once again in the series against TSM why it is considered one of the most difficult teams to predict in the league. Defying all predictions and playing a great early game, FlyQuest eliminated TSM from the playoffs and gave themselves a chance to compete for a spot in the finals. And indeed, after losing 3-1 to EG in the first round of the playoffs, FlyQuest seems to have learned their lesson and followed up with 3-0 wins over Golden Guardians and 3-2 against TSM.

FlyQuest won the series against TSM by playing well in the early stages, so this should continue to be a highlight for this team to challenge EG more seriously. In the first meeting between these teams, FlyQuest drafted quite poorly, which resulted in poor line-ups compared to the team's strengths and the line-ups of the competitors. FlyQuest is at its best when it gains an advantage in the early stages, and only then can it stay in the match. Without an early advantage, FlyQuest usually "collapses" in the mid-late stages of the game and lets the reins of the match slip from their hands.

H2H

The Evil Geniuses won both regular season games and the first playoff game 3-1.

Forecast

Evil Geniuses and FlyQuest will meet for the second time in these play-offs. It's often said that it's harder to beat the same team for the second time in a short space of time, but the situation is slightly different here. FlyQuest has a clear style of play, which is why it is essential to get ahead in the early stages in order to win. Evil Geniuses, although a newly formed team, is also one of the most experienced teams and will surely find ways to counteract FlyQuest's core strength. Evil Geniuses are very likely to finish the series with a 3-0 or 3-1 record, so a -1.5 game advantage is a good way to get out of this series.
