CSKA

CSKA Moscow finished the Euroleague regular season in 2nd place, behind only Barcelona. Although CSKA did not show the same confidence in their play that we saw at the start of the season when the team was beset by injuries, their position at the end of the season shows that CSKA achieved their original goal for the regular season. CSKA will go into the first game of the series on the back of 6 consecutive wins, 4 of which came by double-digit margins.

T. Shengelia, who joined CSKA this season, as well as G. Lundberg and M. Eric, who joined CSKA later in the season, have been a good addition to the team. The Dane, who has been getting more and more minutes since James' departure, and who has been making Lithuanian national team fans go crazy, is finding his game in Moscow. In CSKA's last 3 Euroleague games, Lundberg has been the team's highest scorer.

All in all, CSKA has stepped up a gear in the last month before the playoffs and is now playing very high level basketball. Itoudi has still managed to rebalance the team after the various misunderstandings with James and injuries that plagued the team during the season, and CSKA will definitely be one of the main contenders for the title as we head into the play-offs. Fenerbahçe Ulker

Istanbul Fenerbahçe Ulker finished the Euroleague regular season in 7th place in the standings, ahead of St. Zenit St. Petersburg. Fenerbahçe has been one of the most unpredictable teams in the Euroleague throughout the season, with great games against potentially stronger opponents followed by poor games against weaker opponents. Of course, the off-season changes, injuries and the COVID-19 situation have also contributed to the fluctuations in the team's form, but most of the teams have had similar problems, so it would be unfair to blame it all on these factors.

It is also very disappointing that just before the start of the playoffs, several important players have fallen ill at the Ulker camp COVID-19: DyShawn Pierre, Bobby Dixon, Ahmed Doverioglu, Jerell Eddie and Melih Mahmutoglu will not be able to help the team for a while. With 2 out of the 5 players not playing starting in the starting five, it is not hard to understand the level of losses for this team. By the way, besides the absence of these players in the rotation, the team will also be without head coach Kokoskov and J. Vesely, who is recovering from an ankle injury.

Forecast

CSKA is at its peak of fitness just before the playoffs, while Istanbul will be without more or less half of its team and head coach. Probably with full rotations the teams would be evenly matched, but as things stand today it would be naive to expect Ulker to be able to make a serious challenge. The suggested 10-point CSKA advantage looks like a good option, as the Moscow team, despite the line-up, will not relax at the start of the most important phase of the season and will be looking to show what they are really worth.
