Christian Garin - Jeremy Chardy, ATP250 Bastad

ATP 250 tournament Bastad in the city, otherwise known as Swedish Open. In the second round of the tournament, we will have an interesting match between the young Chilean Christian Garin, who is having a great season and has improved a lot, and one of the well-known veterans, Frenchman Jeremy Chardy. In this prediction we will take a look at both players and give you our insights and tips for this match.

Christian Garin

Christian Garin

Christian is considered to be one of the tennis players who have made the most progress this year. On 10 June this year, he recorded a career-best ranking of 32nd, compared to just 164th last year at a similar time in mid-July. This is a huge leap, but such a dramatic change does not just happen. Garin's style of play is perfectly suited to the clay surface, which is his favourite. The Chilean likes to play the ball and spice things up when he gets the chance, he also plays well from the back line and, above all, he has a good psychology, which is very important to continue to rise in the rankings. Christian has already played 27 matches on clay this season, winning 21 of them! Winning the finals in Munich and Houston and reaching the final in Sao Paulo are his best achievements so far. The French Open was a bit of a setback, as the Chilean had to play one Stan Wawrinka in the second round, and Stan didn't give his younger opponent a chance. In any case, given the level at which Garin is playing on clay this season, he is the clear favourite in tomorrow's match. You can watch the video below to see some of the Chilean's game.  https://www.atptour.com/en/players/christian-garin/gd64/overview here you can also find more information about the player.

Jeremy Chardy ( https://www.atptour.com/en/players/jeremy-chardy/ca12/overview )

Jeremy Chardy

The 32-year-old Frenchman, currently ranked 80th in the rankings, is past his best year. These days he is a mediocre player who can play one match or another well, but struggles to achieve anything more. Chardy's best career results are on clay, but this season is not helped by that: he has won only 5 out of 12 matches on clay, and his best result of the season was qualifying for the R16 ATP1000 tournament in Madrid, where he lost to Djokovic. Chardy is one of those players from whom it is difficult to expect something like that, because when the black clouds roll in, the Frenchman doesn't shy away from giving away sets in dry results. Chardy has a pretty good serve, he can play the ball well and he can hit hard, but he is slower and he also likes to lose his head, which will certainly make tomorrow's match very difficult against the young Chilean, who is in great form. You can see some of the Frenchman's game in the video below.

Reciprocal matches

Probably the only positive thing for Chardy in tomorrow's match will be the history of the matches between the two: he has won 3 of the 4 matches he has played against Ch. Garin. In fact, this is quite misleading because all 3 matches won by the Frenchman were played before 2017, when the Chilean was only 20 years old and far from his current form. Garin managed to win the 2019 match in Houston in 3 sets.

Forecast

You can see that the bookmakers have taken into account the history of the matches between the two players, because the odds for a Garin victory are too high considering the level at which both players are playing these days. The odds for a Garin win at Bet365 are 1.57, while at Olybet we can find a selection with 1.68. The realistic odds for Garin's victory should be ~1.35-1.4, so we already have a significant advantage over the bookmaker by using the Olybet option. In any case, we suggest to go with -1.5 games advantage with odds of 1.9because the Chilean would have to cover the advantage offered in any case. A smaller percentage of bankruptcy can be risked by taking Garin's 2-0 win, the 2.6 odds here are also a bit too high and have value.
