A little about Cambodia and a return to poker

Hi, so it's been a while since my last post, during which time I've been preparing for my trip and getting settled in Cambodia. However, tomorrow I'm going to buy 4G internet which is pretty stable here (my friend who lives with me bought it last week, today he was already on his third session and had no problems) and next week I should be able to get an extra internet connection to my house as well, so that I can protect myself against internet dropouts and finally be able to get a poker session after all this time. And then on to the rest of it.

Prices in Cambodia:

This is probably the cheapest country I've ever been to, you can get a very tasty and hearty meal for 1.5-3 dollars (of course there are more expensive ones, but we've found a place where you can get a very tasty meal for 2 dollars), you can get a cheap pint of beer in a bar for 25 cents, but the most common price is 50 cents (here you get pints of 0.33l) , accommodation is also very cheap, if you like to travel cheaply this is the place for you, because in a hostel dorm room you can get a bed from 2 dollars, and we lived in a double room for which we paid 10 dollars a night (for 5 people) and 13 dollars a night, but we had a swimming pool and a free pool table, and now we rented a three-room cottage for 650 dollars (you can see what it looks like at PokerioSchool. You can see what it looks like on the Poker School Facebook page (scroll down to see the video). The visa costs 30 dollars a month (and as in Thailand you don't have to leave the country every 3 months), smokers would also like it here because you can find the cheapest pack of cigarettes for 25 cents, transport in the city is also cheap using tuk tuks or scooter drivers who can take you to any part of the city for 2 dollars (tuk tuks are usually a bit more expensive), and things that are illegal in Lithuania are also very, very cheap here. By the way, one of the main rules is that if you pay a tuk tuk for transport in the city, buy food for the market, always negotiate on the street, almost always pay 2x cheaper than they ask for transport.

Climate, people, time:

The time zone is 4 hours ahead of Lithuania (not the best time zone for poker players), the climate is very warm and humid (at night the temperature is probably 28 degrees now), there is a rainy season, but it's at the end of the season, it rains once or twice a day and that's about it, although there is one or two big storms, but as far as I've heard from people and read on the internet, during the season it doesn't rain here at all. The people are all nice at first impression, with smiles, it's even strange when a child walks by in tattered clothes, without shoes, but with a smile all the way up to the ears, the feeling is that people here know how to enjoy life more. However, as far as I have spoken to people who have businesses, they say that most of them are two-faced and not to be trusted, but I have not come across that personally.

Online and live poker in Cambodia

As I said, there are quite good internet providers which my colleague has already tried and 2+2 forum members who have lived here have recommended it and said they have never had any problems, so it's a good place for online poker, and you can also play on French sites like winamax or pokerstars.fr and have no problems. As for live poker, I've only been to one other casino (Lion city, Sihanoukville where I live) and it looks pathetic, more like a sports poker club, a huge hall with bright lights, lots of gaming tables and machines (none of which work and none of which have any dealers other than the poker) and a few poker tables, the only ones with anything going on. Currently there are tournaments in the city only there are 3 times a week 30 dollar knockouts and 11 dollar hypers every day. I was wondering about the casho, it's happening in a few other casinos, but since it's off-season there aren't many people around and 1-2 tables max everywhere. However, as far as the foreigners who live here longer have spoken, they said that it is not difficult to find good cash games in the high season. On the plus side, Cambodia has 3 big series, 2 WPTs (one on the Cambodia-Thailand border, on the Thai side) and an APT, and there are a number of smaller poker series in the surrounding countries that are not expensive to go to from here and the cost of living to go to them is a lot lower than in Europe. So that's it for now, I'll try to post the next report with my results next Monday or Tuesday.
