Bets on Tokyo Olympics 2021 - Basketball Tournament

Summer Olympics 2021 - group competitions

Let's not deny that basketball is the second religion in Lithuania. However we look at it, even without our national team, the Olympic basketball tournament generates the most interest and excitement. Will the USA continue its Olympic dominance? Or will the elite European teams, the victory-hungry Australia, the sensational Nigeria, which played sensationally in the qualifiers, or perhaps the unpredictable Argentina, dethrone the elite European teams? There are a lot of question marks to be answered.

Bets on Tokyo Olympics 2021 - Basketball tournament

Group A - intrigue beneath the surface

Group teams: USA, France, Czech Republic, Iran

Predicted formation:

  1. USA
  2. France
  3. Czech Republic
  4. Iran

Czech Republic:

First of all, in Group A, it is not the tens of millions of NBA stars who should be singled out, but the Czech players who have created a sensation. They have so impressed the basketball and sporting world that the team's captain, guard T.Satoransky, was even given the honour of carrying his country's flag at the opening ceremony. However, despite this small miracle, it would be naive to expect that a team of 3-4 people playing in elite clubs could put up a strong fight against the USA or France. The best case scenario for the team is a surprise defeat of France and a 2nd place in the group, which would give them a direct route to the quarter-finals. Otherwise, it is hoped that a big win against Iran would give them a trip to the quarter-finals as one of the top two third places.

Recommended bets: relatively high Czech score, more than 12 points for the USA against France.

OlympiadUSA:

If 1992. Jordan, Pippen, Johnson and other NBA stars who appeared in Barcelona in 1992 simply crushed opponents from Europe and the rest of the world, the further away they go, the less threatening the opponents from across the Atlantic seem. Even the super-talented US team in 2008 and 2012 had to sweat to beat the stronger teams. However, in the world of basketball, there are no players as good as those who can defend one-on-one against hot K.Durant or D.Booker. Only through teamwork and very good scoring can we hope to beat the US team, as Nigeria showed us all in the qualifiers. However, from an objective point of view, it is naive to expect anything more than France to be a serious challenge.

France:

Until recently, France, even with NBA players T.Parker and B.Diaw, was just Goodbut certainly not an elite European team. Now, in recent years, it is one of the two strongest teams, regularly appearing in the finals or on the verge of it. However, the qualification for the Tokyo Olympics suggests that France's time may be coming to an end. The athletic squad has a fairly experienced core of names that are familiar to everyone in Europe and the US. Six players are from the NBA, but France has only managed to win once in four attempts in friendlies. France is likely to need time get involved, so this team, if it starts to play better basketball, will only do so in the later stages of the tournament.

Iran: does anyone give out medals for an honourable performance at the Olympics? Iran deserves them. In a really competitive group, Haddadi's team could not be sad if they managed to make a competitive shot against significantly superior (on paper) opponents or to shake the hoop with one or two powerful dunks. Iran, along with Japan, are considered outsiders in the tournament, but even against Japan Iran has lost 4 out of 5 friendlies in a crushing fashion. The last victory for a Shiite team was back in 1948 and it certainly looks like we will have to wait for at least 4 more victories.

Olympics 2021 - basketball tournament

Group B - where nothing seems certain

Group teams: Germany, Australia, Italy, Nigeria

Predicted formation:

  1. Australia
  2. Nigeria
  3. Italy
  4. Germany

Germany:

NGermany is predicted to finish 4th, so they can't be called a weak basketball team. The Germans beat the much more favoured Brazilians and the host Croatians in the qualifying tournament, so this team certainly has the talent and potential to surprise us. The problem is that the team lacks real leaders. Although there are many who can step up, if you stop 2-3 people, Germany will have nothing to offer in attack. It is hard to say whether the loss of Schroder, who had a poor season in the NBA but is known as the leader of the team, is really painful. The team looked good without him. Whatever results Germany shows, this team will do it in its own way, and at least in the qualifiers it played nice, easy basketball. I wouldn't want them to become cannon fodder.

Australia:

If the USA is not the favourite, the whole basketball world is talking about Australia. This team is made up of a lot of NBA players and faces familiar to basketball-loving Lithuanians. Australia will be a tough nut to crack at the second Olympics, but there is a problem - the team is going through a kind of vicious medal drought. With the change in format, the team has the best chance to go straight to the furthest stage and beat the strongest opponents. It would be hard to find a position where Australia lacks talent in attack. The only problem is the dwarfed defensive line. Against teams where people like Doncic, Durant or the quicker Rubio control the ball, it will be very difficult not to concede easy points. But the talent to do big things is there.

Italy:

2021 Olympics - Italy

Italy can do a lot at the Olympics, even if they are not the favourites... Lithuanian basketball fans remember it well from 2004. The current Italian team is pretty similar - lots of good players who are good from long range, not much discipline on defence. The clear leader of the team is Atlanta Hawks veteran D.Gallinari, but is his style of play the right one to pull the team behind the ears against equal and stronger teams, and not just shoot three-pointers from semi-free situations one after the other - good question. Although Italy beat the host Serbs in the qualification tournament and made some sensational performances, it is unlikely that Italy will outperform the other teams they will play for medals.

Nigeria:

Many people remember the Nigerian national team for the fact that in the 2012 Olympic basketball tournament, NBA star C.Anthony embedded in 37 points in 14 minutes. The team's line-up, which looked pretty good, did not show any serious resistance. Now it's different. In what was probably their first friendly game, the team beat the USA in an even match. Of course, it wasn't just talent that triumphed; the African players hit their three-pointers very well. Also in the qualifiers, they lost by almost 40 points to Australia but beat Argentina. The youngest team in the tournament will certainly not be the easiest to predict, but there seems to be more than enough potential to beat some of the group opponents.

Group C - when the hosts are unlucky

Group teams: Japan, Slovenia, Spain, Argentina

Predicted formation:

  1. Spain
  2. Slovenia
  3. Argentina
  4. Japan

Japan:

If you are a professional basketball player representing Japan, then you can rub your hands together that your country has decided to host the Olympic Games. The host team always gets a direct ticket to the tournament. It is likely that the only other way for Japan to get through to this tournament would be in the event of a very big sensation. Although experts describe this team as the second weakest in the tournament, even in the qualifiers, Japan managed to surprise and even beat a faltering France. Will there be more surprises? If there were more vulnerable teams in the group than the ones we have at the moment, maybe, but against Slovenia, Argentina and Spain, the hosts have almost no chance.

Olympiad-c-group-sloveniaSlovenia:

TThose looking for a team to support instead of Lithuania in the tournament should feel free to choose the Slovenian national team led by L.Dončič. This is definitely the strongest team that qualified for the Tokyo Olympics through the qualification tournament. And although they broke the hearts of our fans, Slovenia is really playing eye-catching, loose basketball and has probably one of the two or three best players not only in the Olympics, but in the whole world. Slovenia's strength is Doncic and the ability of the players around him to shoot from behind the three-point line. Slovenia's weakness is defence, but we can see that in modern basketball a good offence can bring a good defence to its knees... If the opponents are good, Slovenia can go all the way to the final...

Argentina:

It would be very difficult to understand this Argentinian team. The style of play, the line-up, the defensive schemes and every element of it is very unique. And although this did not lead to good results in the qualifiers (the team lost all three friendlies it played, by an average margin of 18 points), the line-up looks really fierce, and you have to believe that Argentina will be able to compete with all of its opponents. It is fair to say that a lot of the success of the game will depend on the offence and how the small midfielders Campazzo and Laprovittola feel the rhythm of the game and whether it will be easy to break down the opponents' defences. Although the team has the potential, it is hard to see how they will be able to beat Spain or Slovenia in an even match...

Tokyo Olympics 2021 TOP Bookmakers

Spain:

If experience plays a serious role in the tournament, then Spain will definitely go, probably all the way to the final. In the friendlies, Spain's form was good, with two wins against France, two more victories and only a loss to a very angry USA team. For the sceptics, the most striking thing is that the core of the Spanish national team is definitely older. Gasol, Fernandez, Rodriguez, Gasol and Llull are all over 33, and Gasol is 41... If age does not get in the way, Spain could close this era of its basketball generation with a bang and make way for a new one. Otherwise, the generational change may be more of an unpleasant formality.

Olympics - which basketball bets are not worth your attention?

We've taken a look at the teams and made predictions on how they will line up after the group stage. But there is one very important detail... There are always surprises in tournaments and it is impossible to predict them. However, it should also be mentioned that in some cases, the opinion of most experts can be completely off the mark. The real world and the outcome of a real competition is very different from what we see on the floor. So, in this paragraph, we will make four additional predictions on what we do not recommend betting on, at least until one or the other match is played.

Italy will leave its group:

Italy is not a team that plays stable basketball. It can finish second in a round-robin group, but it can also finish fourth here. After playing rather mediocre all the time, Italy looked like a Final Four team in the qualifying tournament, with accurate three-pointers from the floor and very good positional play. The team is made up of a very one dimensional players. If krentathen you can play anyone, but if you score average or even worse, it will be an even fight with a second league team... Italy's success is a risky bet.

The USA will win the tournament:

At the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup and these Olympic Games, you can just smell the sentiment in the air that the USA can be beaten. We just need to deal with their fast-paced attacks and not make any mistakes, and then a lower calibre team can give a serious fight. Yes, Kevin Durant can score 30 points, yes, individually there are no more skilled players, but when it comes to team basketball, the US team came together late (3 players arrived 1 day before the tournament), so it is difficult to talk about organised and successful basketball. Although it would not be surprising if they won, it would also not be surprising if they were beaten in the semi-finals by Spain, France or Slovenia.

Olympics - ArgentinaArgentina is the weakest (among the strong):

It would be very short-sighted to write off such an experienced team with a high basketball IQ so early. The veteran team is likely to be in top form for the decisive battles, so it is unrealistic to think that a double-digit points loss in the qualifiers is a proportionate reflection of the strength and ambition of the 2019 FIBA World Championship finalists. The biggest dark horse of the tournament is surely Argentina and it would be a mistake to write them off.

Nigeria will leave its group:

Like Italy, Nigeria are somewhat unpredictable teams. One day they seem to be playing like the world's elite, but the next time, even against an opponent who is weaker on paper, the team is showing low-quality basketball. Nigeria got a lot of media attention when it beat the USA, but let us not forget that Puerto Rico did the same thing in 2004, right at the Olympic Games, and never showed another very good performance. Although I would like to see this team succeed, it is very possible that the strongest African team will still be the one-hit wonder

Tokyo Games 2021 - Athletics

Olympics 2021 - what will be the most popular events?

The Athletics Arena is perhaps the most high-profile venue at any Olympic Games. This time is no exception. Although we won't have the stars that many have become very accustomed to (e.g., U.Bolto), but this does not diminish the intrigue. Let's take a look at what the experts are promising and which events will attract the most attention in the athletics arenas.

Summer Olympics 2021
  • 100m and 200m sprint
  • 4x100m team sprint
  • 1500m run
  • Discus throwing
  • High jump
  • Pole vault

Looking at the list of events, there are a few favourites. The USA dominates the sprinters, while the Jamaicans are predicted to have a slightly stronger advantage in the women's race. Naturally, everyone expects the USA and Jamaica to fight for gold again in the team relay sprint. In the prestigious 1500m, Kenya is predicted to triumph in both the men's and women's races.

The most attention-grabbing events and betting predictions

Let's take a closer look at each event and try to see who will be the main favourites at the Olympics. This review will only include predictions for one of the gender events.

Tokyo Olympics 2021 - 100m sprint (men)

Considered the most prestigious event in athletics, the 100m sprint is a race of less than 10 seconds, where the winner is determined by hundredths and sometimes even thousandths of a second. Nowadays, you can no longer expect to run in the final if a sprinter covers the distance in less than 10 seconds, and Bolt raised the bar to new heights when he covered the distance in just 9.58 seconds. The current list of sprinters does not include such a fast athlete, but the favourites are: A.De Grasse (USA), Andre De Grasse (Canada) and Ronnie Baker (USA), in that order.

Best results of the season:

  1. Trayvon Bromell (USA) - 9,77s
  2. Andre De Grasse (Canada) - 9,99s
  3. Ronnie Baker (USA) - 9,85s

Tokyo Olympics 2021 TOP Bookmakers

Tokyo Olympics 2021 - 200m sprint (men)

Alongside the 100m sprint, the 200m is always very interesting to watch, usually dominated by the same names who also win medals in a distance twice as short. Last time we were always used to seeing Jamaican Bolt, but this time it will be different. It's worth mentioning that, as in the 100m sprint, the bookmakers and experts have great confidence in the Canadian A.De Grasse potential, although it doesn't top the list of the season's best results. Predicted ranking (best result of the season)

  1. Noah Lyles, USA (19,74s)
  2. Andre De Grasse, Canada (19,89s)
  3. Kenneth Bednarek (19,78s)

4x100m sprint (women)

Olympic Games 4x100m sprintThis event cannot be excluded because it is one of the most fiercely contested and fought competitions in almost the entire world of sport. For a long time now, the Olympics has been dominated by just two powers - the USA and Jamaica. The Jamaican sprinters are the favourites this time around, having continuously taken the title of champions away from each other.

Olympics - 1500m (men)

Royal The 1.5-kilometre run, considered a middle distance, tests runners' endurance and their ability to push themselves in the last seconds. For those who like a real battle in the athletics arena, there is nothing more spectacular than the last 200 metres, when athletes give their last efforts and compete for every millimetre. The truth is that only four runners this year ran from a very impressive 150 seconds, or 3:30 minutes. Here are the predicted medals, in order from gold to bronze (best result of the season).

  1. Timothy Cheruiyot, Kenya (3:28.28)
  2. Jakob Ingebrigsten, Norway (3:29.25)
  3. Olli Hoare, Australia (3:33.19)

Tokyo Olympics 2021 - djavelin throw (men)

We can look back with nostalgia to a time when it was almost guaranteed that our Olympic star, V.Alekna, would bring home a medal. The Olympic champion is one of the best discus throwers of all time. In the current Olympics, we also have our own Andris Gudžius (season's best - 68.62m), who, according to the experts, will compete for places 4-7, or maybe even bronze, but that would be a kind of surprise. The bookmakers give two medals to the Swedes and one to the Slovenian. Here are the predicted standings (best result of the season).

  1. Daniel Stahl, Sweden (71,4m)
  2. Kristijan Čech, Slovenia (70,35m)
  3. Simon Petterson, Sweden (69,48m)

High jump (women)

Airine Palšytė
Airine Palšytė

Another sport where we have an athlete who can compete for a medal. Although this year Airine Palšytė With only her 25th best result of the season, her personal best would put her very close to the medallists, so on a good day, the Lithuanian could surprise more than one. But everyone suspects that the real battle will be between Russia's M.Lastiskene (competing under the Olympic flag) and Ukraine's Y.Mahuchikh. Both have identical personal bests, but this year the Ukrainian, born in 2001, jumped 3cm over the bar. The bronze medal is predicted for the American V.Cunningham.

Tokyo Olympics 2021-rrock with bitters

Do you remember how Bolt dominated the sprint at one point? Older people may also remember Ukraine's Sergey Bubka, who was the first to jump 6m and broke his own record 35 times. His 6.14m jump was a world record for 25 years until it was broken by the current pole vaulter, Sweden's A. Duplantis. He is the sole leader in the sport and this year his best is 18cm better than any other athlete. The gold is in his hands and the others will have to make do with what's left...
