One of the challenges in major poker tournaments is playing against poker professionals. Professional players are significantly more aggressive and raise pre-flop much more often. Often, they don't even need good cards for this. Additionally, they know how to outplay you on the flop, turn, or river (which we hope will change after you read this book!).
It's interesting that some poker professionals will simply fold when you re-raise them, while others will respond to the re-raise. Professionals who like to call re-raises are very strong opponents because if they sense any weakness from you, they will do everything they can to outplay you.
The best way to fight against them is not to try to outplay them too often. Instead, find your spots to go all-in and put maximum pressure on your opponents. Professionals hate it when someone goes all-in against them because it eliminates their skill advantage. Also, it becomes easier for you to play since you don't have to make any more decisions after that.
Example:
You have A♣ – 10♠. It's the late stage of the tournament. You have 40,000, and the blinds are 800 – 1600. A poker professional who has been outplaying everyone at the table has 80,000. He raises from the middle position to 5,000. Everyone folds to you in the dealer position. The players in the blinds are playing cautiously and passively. What should you do?
Go all-in. Make the professional think about whether he wants to and is worth risking half of his chips.
There are players who are overly aggressive pre-flop and call re-raises, and there are players who are overly aggressive pre-flop but fold to re-raises. Learn to exploit both types of players. You must accumulate chips, and these players can become opportunities to increase your chip stack.
