In 2020, the WPT LAPC was won by Balakrishna Patur, who defeated 490 opponents and outlasted Matas Cimbolas, James Carroll, Upeshka De Silva, Ka Kwan Lau, and Scott Hempel at the final table. The winner bagged $1 million and a ticket to the season-ending Tournament of Champions.
Patur entered the final table with the largest chip stack (6.3M), followed by Matas Cimbolas (4.3M) and James Carroll (4.1M). In total, 188 hands were played at the final table, and the heads-up between Patur and Cimbolas lasted 29 hands.
One of the most interesting moments of the final table occurred on the 93rd hand, when Ka Kwan Lau, holding AJ, lost to Matas Cimbolas with Queen-seven and was eliminated from the tournament. After this hand, the Lithuanian was almost catching up with the chip leader Patur, but he couldn't prove his advantage in the heads-up and had to “settle” for an impressive second place and a $600K cash prize.
