Dwan made headlines at the end of April when he posted several cryptic tweets tagging US and UK politicians. Shortly after, he was taken to the Middlesex Park Royal mental health center.
Now that Dwan has returned to the United States, he claims that the Middlesex Park Royal mental health center detained him without reasonable cause and forcibly medicated him.
Allegations of Forced Medication and Detention
In a May 17 post, Dwan said he returned to the US and detailed what he experienced.
The staff gave him medication without his permission and did not allow him to use his phone for more than two weeks, even though they said they would return it in five or ten minutes.
He admitted that the tweet posted on April 30, which hinted that his condition was improving, was written hastily and thoughtlessly.
โI will file many complaints and several different lawsuits, as well as some tweets and other public information…โ wrote Dwan X.
In one post, Dwan said:
โThis tweet was extracted from me by force (they detain people and inject them with drugs)… Ultimately, I had no access [to my phone] for more than two weeks.โ
Dwan admitted that he misunderstood some details of the situation and sometimes felt paranoid, but emphasized how shocked he was by the detention.
Plans to Speak Publicly
Dwan indicated that he wants to take a break from posting online but also said he plans to discuss this event in more detail in an upcoming broadcast with content creator Abril Zucchi.
โIf those around me had responded to my request to publicly apply pressure, I could have avoided about 10 days of being effectively held prisoner and medicated against my will,โ Dwan added on May 19.
Broader Concerns About Park Royal Facility Operations
There are concerns about this facility that go beyond Dwan's experience. Before being released on May 1, poker player James Marinkovic posted several negative reviews on Google about the Park Royal center. These reviews raised questions about how patients are treated there.
One reviewer claimed to have seen employees verbally abusing clients and neglecting them.
Another person, who was at the center themselves, said that the medical facility is โalarmingly poorโ. A third person living nearby said they often heard screams coming from the building and even called the police due to the alarming noise.
With increasing public interest, the Dwan case may draw even more attention to how mental health facilities operate in the United Kingdom and who is responsible for them.
