Shaun Deeb named 2025 WSOP Player of the Year after historic $4 million win

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) has announced Shaun Deeb as the 2025 WSOP Player of the Year. The WSOP announced the news at X, where the poker world praised the seasoned pro for another great summer season at the poker table.

This is the second time Deeb has won the prestigious Player of the Year (POY) award. He is now one of only two players, along with Daniel Negreanu, to win the award more than once. Negreanu won it twice, in 2004 and 2013.

Since winning his first Player of the Year award in 2018, Deeb has been a regular at the WSOP. He has finished in the top 10 every year except 2024.

in 2019 and 2023, he came very close to victory, finishing second, while he also performed well in 2021 (6th place) and 2022 (4th place).

When it was all over, Deeb X (formerly of Twitter) shared his thoughts:

In his post, he recalled how intense the battle was between him, Martin Kabrehel and Benny Glaser. Glaser, with three wristbands to his name, made a compelling case for why he should be elected POY.

Some in the poker world disagreed with this decision. They felt that Glaser or Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi, who won both the Main Event and the Poker Players Championship, might have been more deserving.

Deeb responded indirectly by posting a tweet explaining why he won again:

Deeb's monster year: 24 cashes, $4 million in winnings

Deeb's 2025 WSOP campaign focused on volume, consistency and big wins.

the 39-year-old has also participated in live and online bracelet games, cashing in 24 of them and earning more than $4 million.

During the summer, he reached five final tables, winning one, finishing second three times and third once.

the $100,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller, the first of its kind at the WSOP, was the game where he won the most money and may have been Player of the Year.

Deeb beat 121 other players to win the huge prize of $2 957 229.

This award is the largest prize ever awarded in a PLO game. The win earned him his seventh career bracelet, making him one of only 16 players in WSOP history to achieve this impressive feat.

Deeb won $348,304 for finishing third in the $10,000 PLO 8-or-Better Championship. It was his second biggest win.

A few days later, he almost won another bracelet when he finished second in the $1,500 Razz.

He also had a great showing online, finishing runner-up in a $600 Monster Stack tournament before losing to Zdenek Zizka heads-up in a $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em live tournament.
