Brent was accused of spreading deceit, according to The Time Union newspaper. The poker legend allegedly sent suspicious white powder several times by mail to the New York State Gaming Commission (NYSGC) headquarters in Schenectady, New York.
Carter's anger over suspended license
The exact reasons for this incident are still unknown, but much is revealed by the fact that Brent was a professional harness racer in the past. Carter was forced to stop this career in 1976 because NYSGC suspended his license due to suspicions of cheating.
Although the cheating charges were later dropped, it seems that Brent never forgave the commission. In recent years, he has increasingly tried to annoy the gaming commission. He sent packages with white powder to the commission's headquarters at least 4 times.
This powder was completely harmless, and Carter admitted that he was sending junk and was warned not to do it again. However, despite this warning, at the beginning of 2021, he sent another bag, this time with talcum powder. The FBI's patience ran out, Carter was arrested in Las Vegas and charged with a federal crime.
Facing 5 years in prison
Brent Carter, who won two WSOP bracelets during his career and achieved truly impressive results in various tournaments, stopped playing in 2015. Now, due to the charges, he faces up to 5 years in prison.
Despite the fact that enough evidence has been gathered and Carter himself admitted to sending junk, in his statement, he claimed that he is innocent.
