This challenge lasted almost 5 months, but only at the beginning of 2021 did the scales drastically tip in Phil's favor. In January 2021, a total of seven sessions were played, and Chance Kornuth managed to win only one of them. On January 23, Chance Kornuth announced his defeat on his Twitter account. A total of 25,400 hands were played, and Phil Galfond won $726,500 overall. You can see the moments from the last session and the winner's interview in the video below.
Galfond remains undefeated in his challenge. He has already won against VeniVidi1993, ActionFreak, and his match against Bill Perkins is unlikely to continue. Phil noted that Chance was the toughest opponent so far and made him sweat a lot, revealing some of his gameplay mistakes. Galfond is becoming an increasingly respected figure in the poker community. He was even appointed as a judge in the discussion about the Negreanu vs Polk challenge.
I've decided to concede the challenge . Congrats to @PhilGalfond on another #GalfondChallenge Victory. It was an incredibly fun battle even though I lost. Going to take a few days w/ friends and family, and share more about my experience in the weeks to come on @ChipLDR

It is worth mentioning that although Galfond won, poker players greatly admired Kornuth's courage to announce his defeat publicly and talk openly about it.
