Pre-flop action: beating a poker pro with an all-in

One of the challenges of major poker tournaments is playing against poker professionals. Professional players are much more aggressive and are much more likely to call pre-flop. Often they don't even need good cards to do so. Plus, they know how to outplay you on the flop, turn or river (which we hope will change after you read this book!).

Interestingly, some poker pros will just fold when you beat them, while others will fold when you beat them. Professionals who like to take a knockdown are very strong opponents, because if they sense any weakness from you, they will try their best to play you.

The right way to fight them is to avoid playing them too often. Instead, it is better to find your own spots to push all in and put maximum pressure on your opponents. Professionals hate to be pushed all in, as it cancels out their skill advantage. It also makes it easier for you to play, as you don't have to make any more decisions afterwards.

Example:

You have A♣ - 10♠ . Late in the tournament You have 40,000 and the blinds are 800 - 1600. The poker pro who played everyone at the table has 80 000. He raises to 5,000 from middle position. Everyone folds to you in dealer position. The players in the blinds play carefully and passively. What do you do?

Stumkit All-in. Make the pro think whether he is willing and worth risking half of his chips.

There are players who are too aggressive preflop and respond to the knockdowns, and there are players who are too aggressive preflop but settle for the knockdowns. Learn to exploit both types of players. You must accumulate chips and these players can become opportunities to increase your chip stack.

Immerse yourself in the risks of the game.
