He is now one of only two players, along with Daniel Negreanu, to win the award more than once. Negreanu won it twice, in 2004 and 2013.

Since winning his first Player of the Year award in 2018, Deeb has been a regular at the WSOP. He has finished in the top 10 every year except 2024.

in 2019 and 2023, he came very close to victory, finishing second, while he also performed well in 2021 (6th place) and 2022 (4th place).

When it was all over, Deeb X (formerly of Twitter) shared his thoughts:

We did it boys and girls great battle between Martin and Benny they battled to the last tourney pic.twitter.com/jRnWtAk7L1
– shaun deeb (@shaundeeb) July 16, 2025

In his post, he recalled how intense the battle was between him, Martin Kabrehel and Benny Glaser. Glaser, with three wristbands to his name, made a compelling case for why he should be elected POY.

Some in the poker world disagreed with this decision. They felt that Glaser or Michael “The Grinder” Mizrachi, who won both the Main Event and the Poker Players Championship, might have been more deserving.

Deeb responded indirectly by posting a tweet explaining why he won again:

I've stayed quiet through most of the Player of the Year chatter – but after @phil_hellmuth video, it's time to respond.
